Adv. Smt.Rashmi Menon (Natyapraveena, Nritya Shiromani)
Rashmi Menon started learning dance at the tender age of four under Smt. Savithri. She had undergone intense training in Mohiniattam, Bharathanatyam & Kuchipudi under the tutelage of disciples of Guru Smt. Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma (late)- Sri Kalalayam Mohandas & Sri Kalalayam Kumarji for about eighteen years. She is a lawyer by profession who has quit the same out of her intense passion for dance. She is a Post-Diploma holder in Mohiniattam, Bharathanatyam & Kuchipudi.
Out of the three South Indian classical dance forms she has mastered she found her true calling in Mohiniyattam. She was trained in Mohiniattam by Smt. Pallavi Krishnan for a few years. Her unending quest for refinement and perfection has taken her to Guru Padmasree Smt. Kalamandalam Kshemavathi who is now guiding her through the deeper realms of her passion. She is also being trained in intricacies of abhinaya by Smt Bragha Bessel.
Rashmi is the Founder - Director of Sree Rajarajeswari School of Dance in Kerala and LAAVANNIA – The Centre For Learning Classical Dances, Kilpauk. Chennai. She trained over hundreds of students in Kerala in Bharatnatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudy and conducted Arangetram of several batches before she shifted to Chennai. She continues to foster and guide the new generation of dancers at LAAVANNIA – The Centre For Learning Classical Dances, Kilpauk.
Rashmi is a graded doordarshan artist both in Mohiniyattam & Bharatnatyam making her regular on television. She has graced several prestigious stages like Indian Dance Festival Mamallapuram (thrice), Uday Shankar Festival Kolkata organised by West Bengal State Sangeet Natak Academy, Cuttack International Festival, Music Academy Chennai, Kerala Sangeet Natak Academy, Sree Chithirathirunal Festival, Kerala Tourism programmes,Deccan Dance Festival, Pallavotsava, Thanjavur Brihadeeswara Temple , NCPA Mumbai, Kalakshetram Mumbai, Rabindra Bharathi Hyderabad, Taj Vivanta Hyderabad, Chowdiah hall Bangalore, Pallavotsava Mysore, Auroville Pondicheri, Mt.Abu Rajasthan, Abhinaya Sudha , Narada Gana Sabha, Karthik Fine Arts, The Mylapore Fine Arts, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mylapore, AIR Chennai, Kadavallur Anyonyam etc. She was honoured by KALADARPANAM in 2004 for her multi-talents .
A graceful performer to the core and a choreographer par excellence, she is a sought after collaborator with many established artists in the Indian Classical World. She is the winner of the Indian Dance Series Contest 2012. She is honoured with NATYA PRAVEENA title for creativity in choreography &NRITHYA SHIROMANI award for the excellence in her field & her contribution and efforts to promote and popularise Mohiniyattam. She is recently honoured with an award of excellence by N.S.S Mukundapuram Taluk, Kerala . She was well appreciated for her excellent performance in her debut short-film titled Wings Of Freedom. She has worked as asst choreographer (Mohiniyattam) for the movie Swapaanam directed by Sri Shaji N Karun.
